The Camino de Norte is another recognized pilgrimate route to Santiago de Compostela. It is also sometimes called the Coastal Route, as the Camino Francés is sometimes called the Interior Route. The Camino del Norte meets up with the Camino Primitivo, the pilgrim route beginning in 800 A.D to Santiago de Compostela.
In Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port some pilgrims prefer to head towards the Camino de Norte which begins in Irun, a Spanish/French border town with Hendaya on the French side
